Cultivating Social Skills
Often, a challenge that clients with autism and other developmental differences face is how to navigate every day social situations and complicated social situations. Clients can struggle with a variety of social skills such as initiating conversations, keeping a conversation balanced and flowing, ending conversations, and more. Additionally, creating long-term friendships and dealing with harassment or bullying can be things that clients need assistance with.

We utilize a modified version of a research-based program called: Program for the Education and Enrichment of Relational Skills (PEERS). Through this modified program we will teach social stories curriculums, we will introduce to clients the hidden rules that exist when we are interacting with others and how to successfully navigate them. We will teach social skills such as trading information, conversational techniques, flexibility in conversations, and good sportsmanship. It is our goal to help clients feel more comfortable and confident when interacting with peers and to help them develop long lasting and meaningful relationships.
